My name is Shelley Palmer. I am a Maine Native residing in Orono with my husband and two children. Being a Santa Claus enthusiast and collector gave me a desire to create my own visions of St. Nick. I operate my business, Chickadee Pudding Co. out of my home. I am a member of the Maine Products Marketing Program and United Maine Craftsmen, Inc. Each heirloom quality Santa I make is unique and one-of-a-kind. None will ever be duplicated. I begin each Santa by sculpting a face of polymer clay. ( Many of my Santas also feature sculpted hands.) I hand paint the eyes to give them the warmth one would expect from Santa. After sheep's wool beard and hair is added, Santa's personality comes through and I know how he needs to be dressed. I craft an armature of wood and wire covered with a stuffed body stocking. Costume design then begins. Each outfit is designed and sewn by me using top quality fabrics and trims. Many include genuine recycled furs and vintage buttons and accessories. Each Santa is fully dressed and all coats are lined. I accessorize my Santas with careful attention to detail using a combination of purchased toys, found objects, and toys I make myself. Each Santa is created with the greatest care for scale and balance. The Santas are signed and dated. Each comes with a certificate of authenticity. St. Nicholas, P`ere Noel, Father Christmas, or Christkindl; whatever you wish to call him, my Santas are a labor of love that represent the joy, love and goodness in each of us that Santa Claus embodies.
